Consumers Cooperative Society of Santa Monica 2018 Scholarship Recipients


Ifeoma Baadi

IFEOMA BAADI – Ifeoma will be graduating from Hawthorne High School and plans to attend California State University, Long Beach to major in Electrical Engineering. Ifeoma’s most recent award of honors includes being named as student of the month, making the Principal’s Honor Roll and being named as the most academic Lady Cougar basketball player in February 2017. Ifeoma was also recognized by the Upward Bound Los Angeles program for having an outstanding GPA of 4.0. With her compassion for the community, Ifeoma has volunteered much of her time at convalescent homes, her church, and with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. As Ifeoma steps out and joins other students in their quests, she hopes to intern within the aerospace industry, particularly Space X, an aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company. In the most male-dominated field of engineering, Ifeoma has set in motion her mission to make her mark to change society’s view of women engineers.

Nicholas Moran

NICHOLAS MORAN – Nicholas will be graduating from Agoura High School and has been accepted to the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of California, Davis. He is the Founder and President of the Agoura High School Chapter of GenUN. The primary purpose of GenUN is to engage young Americans in the work of the United Nations. Nicholas was selected to represent the IB Diploma program and its students as part of the Agoura High School Superintendent’s Focus Group. He has proven himself to be a leader and role model by all of the awards that he has accumulated over the years such as: the Principal’s Scholar Athletic Award, the 2017 High School Bronze Service Learning Award for more than 50 hours of service, and the 2018 Gold Service Learning Award for more than 10 hours of service.




Min Pan

MIN PAN – Min is a senior at Temple City High School and has been accepted to the University of California, San Diego and plans to study Social Sciences. She is currently enrolled in Advanced Placement classes, a member of the Campus Christian Club, and a Track and Field runner, where she was awarded the 2016-2017 Most Valuable Jumper. Min also contributes her time with the nonprofit organization Minds Matter, which has molded and supported her through leadership seminars and mock debates. Now as part of the movement of “Human of Minds Matter,” Min takes advantage to match up with a mentor to help face all the obstacles and challenges that come with being a student.



Esteban Sandavol

ESTEBAN SANDAVOL – Esteban will graduate from Paramount High School and has been accepted to California State University, Long Beach to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. His community involvements have included participating in blood drives, and learning leadership skills with the local Leo’s Club. Esteban has been placed twice on the Principals’ Honor Roll, and in 2016 voted as the Most Valuable Player on his high school’s Varsity Tennis team. Esteban hopes to apply his major in Civil Engineering by giving back to his community by outlining new ways to provide affordable housing and water systems for those in need.


Garvin Singh

GARVIN SINGH – Garvin will be graduating from South High School and has been accepted to the University of California, San Diego where he will study Nano Engineering. Garvin is an active Senior Scout Leader in the Boy Scouts of America and a Youth Leader and Musician for his church youth group. He is an avid math tutor, and volunteers for the California Scholarship Federation. He is an AP Scholar with honors with a 4.0 GPA, and participates in Cross Country and Track and Field. With his achievements and awards, Garvin has proven to be a true leader and great asset to his community.

Jowen Escobar

JOWEN ESCOBAR – Jowen will be graduating from Alexander Hamilton High School and will be attending the University of California, Los Angeles and major in Psychology. Jowen has been a very active member and leader in campus organizations such as the Best Buddies Club, where she serves as President. Jowen is most passionate about helping others and especially young people with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD). She mentors through the Heart Club, and serves as a member of the Rant Club and the Animal Welfare Club. Jowen is passionate about serving her community. Along with her achievements and awards, she has displayed a 4.0 GPA.
