Consumers Cooperative Society of Santa Monica 2017 Scholarship Recipients


SEBASTIAN ATASHI – Sebastian will be graduating from Palos Verdes High School and plans to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara in the fall and major in Pre-Communication. Since 2013, Sebastian has been a member of his high school’s Basketball and Cross Country teams. He is an active member in his high school’s Associated Student Body (ASB), organizing school spirit events, the Be the Change (BTC) program, which pairs freshman with upper-classmen to foster community, and Open Orchard Productions – an award-winning podcasting group. One day, Sebastian hopes to own a sports radio program.



OEISHI BANERJEE – Oeishi will be graduating from Monta Vista High School in Cupertino and has been accepted to Rice University where she plans to study Computer Science in the fall. She is a lead officer in her high school’s volunteer service club, Octagon – reaching out to the community and nonprofit organizations to assist and fundraise for their events. Along with her numerous leadership roles in academic groups and activities, Oeishi has held an intern positon with NASA’s Autonomy Operating System (AOS) Project, where she worked alongside fellow aerospace interns to conceptualize flyable traffic patterns and collaborated with the AOS group to set up and execute flight tests.


SARAI GOMEZ – Sarai will be graduating from Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School in Los Angeles and has been accepted to the University of California, Berkeley where she plans to major in Political Science/Civics. Sarai has immersed herself in activities where she feels will make the most impact in her school and community. She is the Secretary of her high school’s Associated Student Body (ASB), a member of the Mayor’s Youth Council, and M.E.Ch.A Club. She shows leadership in reaching out to fellow students to motivate them to become proactive participants in the organizations she is most passionate about.


KEIARAH MITCHELL – Keiarah will graduate from King Drew Magnet High School in Los Angeles and has been accepted to the University of California, Los Angeles in the fall and plans to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. For the last three years she has been part of the Omega Mentoring Club, where she mentors and tutors English and Mathematics to elementary students in her community. She is the Founder of the Anti-Bullying Committee, creating an organization to spread positivity, knowledge, and bully-prevention tactics through various activities at school and within her community.


ODYSSEUS PYRINIS – Odysseus will be graduating from Newbury Park High School and has been accepted to the University of California, Berkeley where he will study Economics and Political Science. In 2014, Odysseus created Odyssey Web Designs, a nonprofit web design company, where he assists community organizations and clubs to start their own website and educate on website maintenance. He serves as the President of his high school’s Model United Nations program, where he has had the opportunity to plan various conferences. He has also served as a Chamber of Commerce intern for the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, assisting with the development of website design and management.
